While the regulation is now in effect, the government allows a three-month grace period during which no sanctions are applied, provided companies can demonstrate that they have prepared on time. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3725a2e0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3725a2e0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The figures show a clear acceleration, but also structural differences in adoption depending on region and company size.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-525256a1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"525256a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Peppol in numbers: a massive sprint to the deadline<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-112672ad elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"112672ad\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At the end of 2025, the Peppol network experienced unprecedented growth. Today, <strong>1.6 million Peppol IDs<\/strong> have been registered for <strong>946,000 unique companies<\/strong>, of which <strong>880,000 are VAT-registered<\/strong>. Notably, <strong>750,000 IDs were created in December 2025<\/strong>, just before the legal deadline.  <\/p><p>This final sprint shows that many companies delayed the transition, but also that the threshold for joining \u2014 particularly via external platforms \u2014 has become relatively low.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3a4fcaa2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3a4fcaa2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>What changes in practice?<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-11c8d7d3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"11c8d7d3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>From 2026 onwards, a PDF invoice sent by email or via a standalone platform is no longer sufficient. Invoices must be exchanged in a structured and automated way directly between the sender\u2019s and recipient\u2019s software systems via Peppol. <\/p><ul><li><strong>Large companies<\/strong> had to make extensive adaptations to their existing ERP and invoicing systems. These projects are more complex but are now largely operational. <\/li><li><strong>Smaller companies<\/strong> tend to connect faster via external Peppol access points or accounting platforms, facilitating smoother adoption.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42b573d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42b573d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Regional differences in registration<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-25ed5748 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"25ed5748\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Looking at the distribution of registered companies by region:<\/p><ul><li>Flanders: 68.09%<\/li><li>Wallonia: 22.45%<\/li><li>Brussels: 9.46%<\/li><\/ul><p>This distribution reflects not only the economic weight of the regions but also a historical gap in digital maturity. Flemish companies are clearly ahead, partly due to previous e-invoicing obligations for public contracts and a broader focus on digital integration. <\/p><p>Examining the share of registered companies within each region provides a more nuanced picture:<\/p><ul><li>In <strong>Flanders<\/strong>, nearly <strong>80%<\/strong> of companies have a Peppol ID.<\/li><li>In <strong>Brussels <\/strong>and <strong>Wallonia<\/strong>, this share is around<strong> 70%<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><p>The gap is real, but smaller than often assumed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4ff6fa47 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4ff6fa47\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>E-invoicing: differences by company size<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4cc47c02 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4cc47c02\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The extent to which companies are connected to Peppol is strongly linked to their size. The larger the organization, the further along the registration process \u2014 a pattern clearly reflected in the data. <\/p><p>Among companies with no employees, only <strong>57%<\/strong> have a Peppol ID. Once companies have a few employees, the adoption rate rises quickly: <strong>79%<\/strong> for micro-companies (1\u20134 employees) and nearly <strong>90%<\/strong> for companies with five or more employees. For medium and large companies, the registration rate exceeds<strong> 95%<\/strong>.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3dd3c70 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3dd3c70\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>From compliance to strategic advantage<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-268e9c78 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"268e9c78\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>While e-invoicing is often viewed as a compliance exercise, its real value lies elsewhere:<\/p><ul><li>faster invoice processing<\/li><li>fewer errors<\/li><li>better cash flow monitoring<\/li><li>and, above all, better data quality<\/li><\/ul><p>For finance, credit, and sales teams, this translates into greater transparency and improved risk management.
